Dear Brother Ron
What does it mean when Jesus tells us not to cast our pearls before swine?
It comes from Matthew 7:6-Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
Jesus is talking here about trying to counsel those who are steadfast in their evil. He is talking about those who are so committed to a life of sin and lust that if you try to show them the right way, they will take it as an insult and attack you. I have many years of experience in education. Before a student can be successfully taught, the student must have a predisposition for learning. This means the student must have a desire to learn, a positive attitude about learning and a willingness to invest time and effort to the learning process.
If a person is immersed
in a life of sin, they are convinced that is the life which will satisfy
their needs. They see no need to make any changes in their life and no need
to learn about any. Furthermore, they may have a negative attitude about the
person attempting to teach them. They are therefore unwilling to invest any
time or effort toward learning new behaviors or attitudes.
You might compare this to the old adage, "Never try to teach a pig to sing.
It only wastes your time and it annoys the pig."
Jesus compares such people to dogs and swine. Personally, I avoid making such comparisons. I believe God made each of us for a purpose. That includes the criminal and the reprobate. We may not understand what that purpose is but our Father does. Perhaps they are sent here to be warning signs for those with the ability to heed the warning. Unfortunately, many are not ready to learn. Perhaps this is what Jesus meant when He said, "He that hath ears to hear, let him hear."
So offer your pearls to
those who are ready to accept them. As for those who are not, they will
eventually realize the value of your message and be willing to accept it.
When they do, be available to them. They are the reason our Father gave you
