Isaiah 43:18

Dear Brother Ron

Isaiah 43:18: "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past."

Does that mean I should forget the shows I used to watch in the past? Do TV shows count as former things?

Hoping

Dear Hoping

Isaiah is telling the Israelites to forget about the bringing of Israel out of Egypt, and through the Red sea, and the drowning of Pharaoh and his army in it and to concentrate on the greater things which were yet to come. At the time this was written, the Hebrews had been taken captive by the Babylonians. Isaiah was saying that their release from the Babylonian captivity would be greater than their escape from Egypt.

As far as your TV shows are concerned, if you have been addicted to game shows and "reality" shows, there is very little that goes on there which is memorable. You would do well not to occupy your mind with them. For that matter, if the television is the center of your universe, you might consider getting off the couch and doing something memorable with your life.

Best always
