Is It More Important To Read the Bible or Go to Church?

Dear Brother Ron

What do you think is more important in a Christian's life - reading the bible or going to church? I ask because my parents are practicing Christians who go to church regularly and they are really kind, loving, peaceful and friendly people but they have never read the bible. My dad even says he tried to read it when he was younger but it said one thing in one place and the opposite in another and he couldn't understand it. This confused me because I thought it was an integral part of Christianity and I thought how can you follow christ if you don't know his words. I am the opposite I read the bible but haven't gone to church since I was a kid and can't find the peace and spiritual gifts my parents display.

Dear Morrissey

Neither of the above. The most important thing is to form a personal relationship with the Spirit of the living God within you. Some people do this by going to church. Others find the key to this relationship within the pages of religious texts. And others simply marvel at the glory of a sunset.

Many people are confused by the Bible because it was written by several people over a period of five thousand years. Sociological and political changes resulted in conflicting viewpoints and changes. The only way to make sense of it all is with the guidance of our Father.

Religious organizations are created by humans to serve human needs. Many people have a problem finding spiritual peace in these human organizations. Since there are over 300 Christian denominations in this country, you should be able to find one which will assist your spiritual development.

Ask our Father to guide you.

Best always

Brother Ron
