Mistakes in the Bible

Dear Brother Ron

If the bible is "divinely" inspired, then how do you explain the MANY mistakes in it? And the list of mistakes, lies and contradictions is VERY long; too long for a book that was supposedly inspired by a divine and perfect being. Here are just a few contradictions and blatant errors, there are many more.

O’Canada

Dear O’Canada

The Bible was written by many people over a period of about 5,000 years. It was also told and retold many times. The Old Testament was passed down as oral history for about 1800 years before being written down shortly before the Babylonian captivity. The New Testament was not written until 35-95 A.D. It was written in Greek. Jesus spoke Aramaic. It was then translated into Latin and from there into English. In the process, a lot of material got edited out.

We can learn a lot from the Bible but we should not worship it. The Bible went through a lot of human processes. The Bible may have been inspired by God but it was edited by humans. I have trouble believing the 319 delegates to the First Council of Nicea and the 47 editors who produced the King James Bible were all perfect and without political influence for the emperor Constantine and King James II.

The only place you are going to get perfect truth is from the perfect God whose Spirit dwells within you. Everything else is the product of fallible humans.

Best always
Brother Ron
