Mosianic Law

Dear Brother Ron

When Christians say we are not under Mosianic Law anymore, what does this mean? I thought Moses' Law was God's Law.

Pushthev

Dear Pushthev

The law of Moses was what the Israelis needed at the time. They were newly delivered from Egyptian bondage and not used to self-government. They had fallen into idolatry and ungodly behaviors so Moses declared a theocracy and issued the Ten Commandments as the basis for this system.

By the time Jesus was born, the Ten Commandments had been expanded to over 600 commandments. The penalty for breaking these commandments was sacrifice of money or livestock to the temple. The temple had become little more than a bank and a barbeque joint.

Jesus despised this and offered Himself as the ultimate sacrifice. His message was we are redeemed not by works or contributions to the church, but by the grace of God. The law had become so strict that nobody could adhere to it. This was great for the religious organization because it kept the money and sacrifices coming in. But Jesus taught us these things are not needed nor are they sufficient to "buy" our way into heaven.

I could quote a lot of Bible verses to prove my point but I'll let you do that for yourself.

Best always
Brother Ron
