Religion Will Not Solve Your Problems

Dear Brother Ron

Why do Americans seem to think religion will solve their problems when they just get in deeper and deeper each year? Perhaps they should try a more realistic religion not based on an invalidated book.

American hero

Dear Hero

Religion will not solve your problems. God will, however, give you the strength and wisdom to solve your own problems. Of course, once God shows you a solution, it is your responsi- bility to act on it. I think the following story best illustrates this:

A man was trapped by a flash flood and barely had time to scramble up to his roof. As he sat on the roof, the water continued to rise. A man came by in a boat and said, "Get in and I will take you to safety."

The man on the roof replied, "I don't need your boat. The Lord is going to save me."

The man in the boat moved on to look for others to save and the water continued to rise. A few minutes later, a National Guard helicopter flew over the man sitting on his roof. The men in the helicopter dropped a rope ladder and shouted over the bullhorn, "Climb the ladder and we will fly you to safety."

The man shouted back, "I don't need your helicopter. The Lord is going to save me."

The helicopter flew on and the water continued to rise. Eventually the man was swept off the roof and he drowned. As he stood before the Lord, he said, "Lord, I had faith you would save me from the flood. Why did you let me down?"

The Lord replied, "What are you talking about? I sent you a boat and a helicopter."

God does not live in a book or a building. He lives within your heart. Learn to listen for His voice and He will show you how to solve your problems. He has always shown me how to solve mine.

Best always
Brother Ron
