The Role of the Church

Dear Brother Ron

What is the role of church in the society?

Bingo

Dear Bingo

A church can play many useful roles. Of course the main role is as a place of worship where people with similar perceptions of God can come to worship together. There are many others.

Congregations are often asked to pray for the sick, elderly, deceased and those in poverty. Just as two heads are better than one, two prayers are better than one. Turn on a radio and tune it to a certain station. Now take a second radio, tune it to the same station and set it to the same volume. The sound will be much louder, although the volume on the two radios is the same. This is called sympathetic resonance. The same principle applies to spiritual energies.

Churches are also the most efficient means of channeling aid to the needy. A church spends seven dollars in administrative costs for every one hundred dollars in aid distributed. The average administrative cost for United Way agencies is $20. For every $100 in benefits the government gives out, they spend $328 in administrative costs. Churches get more bang for the buck.

Churches also serve as a center for social activities and community bonding. Most have periodic dinners and other social events. Many sponsor sports leagues for the youth.

Finally, churches provide religious education, especially for children. Of course different churches provide these services to a differing degree and with differing degrees of expertise and commitment. You should determine what you want and need from a church and find one which meets your wants and needs.

Best always
