Trouble With Old Habits

Dear Brother Ron

This is a tough one for me so please be honest. I'm a new Christian as of just a few months ago and I have faith in Christ as my savior but one of my really bad old habits still haunts me and I fell to the temptation. I feel as if i failed God and I don't feel like I can pray to him because I did what I did even though I knew it was wrong and I did it more than once. I feel like I would be taking advantage of Him if I just asked for forgiveness again but I don't want Him to forsake me because I stop praying. What should I do? How do I stop this horrible habit from getting to me? And to kind of clarify, this is the kind of habit that almost everyone fears that a male gets into, mostly younger ones like myself.

Erik

Dear Erik

Our Father saw your sin before you were born and forgave you before you committed it. One of the things I love about God is He knows what imperfect creatures we are and loves us anyway. Just because you are "saved", that does not mean you are free from temptation. Because you are human, you are prone to give in to that temptation.

If God only let perfect people into heaven, it would have a population of one.
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God

You have not failed God. He still wants to talk to you. You are not powerful enough to take advantage of God. He knows how fallible we are and has unlimited forgiveness.

Matthew 18:21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?
Matthew 18:22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

Keep talking to God. He will get you through this.

Best always
Brother Ron
